A commemoration ceremony

The former German death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau hosted mourning events on the occasion of the International Roma Genocide Remembrance Day.

Roma survivors from all over Europe, representatives of state and local authorities, and diplomats attended the event.

Apart from Jews and Poles, Roma make up the largest group of people killed in the former German concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau.

In 2015, the European Parliament declared August 2 as the European Roma Holocaust Remembrance Day.
