Support Roma Genocide Survivors in Ukraine
“They Carry Resilience. We Carry Responsibility. Help Roma Genocide Survivors Today.”
Across Ukraine, elderly Roma survivors of the Nazi genocide — are once again facing fear, deprivation, and isolation. Most are now in their 80s and 90s. There are very few left. Each of them carries irreplaceable memory, lived history, and dignity.
The Russian full-scale invasion has pushed these survivors into extreme vulnerability. Many live alone. Many survive winters without heating. Many lack essential medication, food, or basic care. Loneliness and the feeling of being forgotten define their daily reality.
This campaign is a rapid humanitarian response to the urgent, individual needs of Roma genocide survivors in Ukraine — heating, medicine, food, medical assistance, and human care.
Its goal is simple and deeply human: to help Roma genocide survivors live with dignity and care, feeling that their memory matters, that they are not forgotten.
The campaign is launched in 2026, marking the 85th anniversary of the Babyn Yar massacre — a moment that reminds us that remembrance must be active. Memory without care is incomplete.
Why This Matters
Roma Genocide survivors in Ukraine are amo.,,ng the very few people in Europe who have lived through two wars on the same land — the Second World War and today’s Russian invasion on Ukrainian territory. Their lives connect history with the present. Supporting them is not only humanitarian aid — it is an act of justice.
This initiative is led by the third generation of Roma survivors, caring for their grandparents’ generation. It is an expression of responsibility, intergenerational solidarity, and lived remembrance.

Connected to Long-Term Memory Work
This campaign is aligned with ongoing project “Safeguarding Oral History of the Genocide of Roma in Ukraine,” led by the Youth Agency for the Advocacy of Roma Culture “ARCA” in partnership with KONTAKTE KONTAKTbI e.V. The initiative helps to document survivor testimonies during wartime and preserves them for future generations.
While the project safeguards memory through oral history preservation and education, this campaign addresses the immediate reality: survivors need support now.
The project and its dissemination are carried out in cooperation with leading memory and research institutions in Ukraine, Europe, and the United States.
There are not many survivors left. They deserve care. They deserve dignity!
