The UN to Commemorate the Victims of the Holocaust. ARCA to Take Part in the Commemoration

Jan. 26, 2026 Officially

On 27 January, the international community observes the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.
It was on this day in 1945 that the Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated, revealing to the world the full scale of the crimes committed by the regime. On this occasion, the United Nations is holding commemorative events.

Natalia Tomenko, Deputy Director of the Roma Youth Advocacy Agency “ARCA”, will take part in the official events.

This date holds special significance for ARCA. During the Second World War, Roma and Sinti people became victims of genocide — a crime that remains one of the least recognized atrocities committed by the Nazi regime. For a long time, this tragedy remained outside official historical memory.

Natalia Tomenko’s participation in the commemorative events carries both a personal and a professional dimension. Ms. Tomenko represents the third generation after the genocide of Roma people and is the granddaughter of a survivor of Nazi persecution. At the same time, for many years she has been engaged in advocacy work aimed at ensuring that the memory of the genocide of Roma and Sinti becomes an integral part of national and international discourse — through research, public events, archival work, and educational initiatives.

Let us come together to honor the memory of the victims of the Nazi regime.
