Youth Day: the power that shapes the future
Youth is a time when the world is full of dreams, plans, and hopes. A time when it seems that anything is possible. But today, Russia has taken away our children's childhood, our young people's hopes and carefree lives, and each of us our normal lives and peaceful tomorrows.
Despite this, Ukrainian youth continue to fight, work, and create. Some serve in the Armed Forces, defending Ukraine's borders and independence. Others are involved in volunteering, culture, education, science, or community activities.
Roma youth today feel double pressure. In addition to the usual trials of wartime, there is discrimination based on ethnic origin. Stereotypes and prejudices cause additional pain. In these times, we must unite, rallying against the external enemy, rather than persecuting our fellow citizens.
When displaced persons fleeing the war are denied housing because they are Roma... When a family cannot receive compensation for their destroyed home because they do not understand bureaucratic procedures, cannot read laws or regulations... When they are denied work simply because they are Roma... This is not okay. This is stigma, discrimination, prejudice.
The ARСA Youth Agency works to support young people, develop their potential, and give them space to act, even in the darkest times. So that “being Roma” does not become an obstacle.
Roma youth in Ukraine have great potential, which manifests itself in various fields — from art, sports, and entrepreneurship to community activism and science. They are growing up, preserving their cultural heritage while integrating into modern society and offering the world new ideas and solutions. Their energy, talent, and ability to overcome challenges are resources that can change communities and the country as a whole. Supporting and developing this potential is an investment in a strong, diverse, and successful future for Ukraine.
We thank each and every one of you who is shaping the future today.
And we honor the memory of those whose lives were taken by the war.
