Open Call for Participants: Summer School on Roma History "Remembering Together"

March 11, 2025

We are excited to announce an open call for young activists, youth leaders, historians, and researchers between the ages of 18 and 35 to apply for our Summer School on Roma History, titled "Remembering Together," taking place in Berlin from June 10-15, 2025!

Target Participants:

We encourage applications from Ukrainian youth in Ukraine and throughout Europe, as well as Roma and Sinti individuals residing within Germany. By engaging diverse voices, we aim to address historical prejudices and empower participants to advocate for racial equity and human rights. This inclusive approach promotes solidarity among marginalized communities and fosters a commitment to preserving the memory of the Roma genocide.

About the Project:

At the heart of the project will be a six-day workshop organized collaboratively with The Society for Threatened Peoples International (STPI) and ARCA, with support from the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility, and Future. The "Remembering Together" project focuses on the remembrance and documentation of the Roma genocide during the National Socialist regime. Our aim is to cultivate a critical understanding of this tragic history and its implications for contemporary racial discrimination. The program will consist of an engaging workshop featuring lectures, discussions, site visits, and experiential learning activities that promote dialogue, mutual understanding, and advocacy for human rights and social equity.

Key Components of the Program:

  • Educational Workshops: Engaging sessions led by experts in the field, including historians and researchers, focusing on the lives of Roma and Sinti before, during, and after WWII.

  • Documentary Screenings: Thought-provoking screenings that highlight the experiences of Roma and Sinti during the Holocaust.

  • Site Visits: A day dedicated to visiting concentration camps and memorials, promoting historical awareness and reflection.

  • Interactive Sessions: Opportunities to prepare presentations and participate in group discussions based on personal reflections and experiences.

  • Commemorative Resources: Development of bilingual guidelines and materials to aid in the remembrance of significant dates related to the Roma genocide.

Language Requirement:

Knowledge of English is mandatory for participation in this program, as all sessions and materials will be conducted in English.
