Educational event "Roma in Ukraine - fighters for democracy, human rights and justice" was held

On Roma Resistance Day, May 16, Berlin hosted an educational event "Roma in Ukraine – Fighters for Democracy, Human Rights and Justice" dedicated to the Roma resistance and the importance of Roma in Ukraine during the Russian aggression.

The event featured an exhibition of collages by Ukrainian artist Oleksandr Maksymov "Me Ukrainatar" and panel discussions with Roma, Ukrainian, German, French scholars, public figures and human rights activists. The international event culminated with the screening of the documentary "Named Voices" by Natalia Vainilovych.

In general, the international event focused on the topic of Roma resistance and the participation of Roma in Ukraine in the struggle for their state, their service in the Armed Forces during the full-scale Russian invasion. The event "Roma in Ukraine – Fighters for Democracy, Human Rights and Justice" was initiated by the Roma culture advocacy organization ARCA together with Pilecki-Institut, Central Council of German Sinti and Roma and Society for Threatened Peoples. Media partners were Vitsche Berlin and European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture - ERIAC

The event was supported by the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany.
